Description: Fairport Convention. Rising For The Moon. Santa Maria Pressing. Inner Sleeve Printed With Lyrics And Band Photographs. Item Details Manufactured in: USA Recorded: Sept. 1974 and Feb.-Mar. 1975 Lacquer Cut At: The Mastering Lab, Ojai, CA Pressing By: Columbia Records Pressing Plant, Santa Maria, CA Original Issue: 1975 This Issue: believed to be 1975 (based on jacket, label design, sleeves, and matrix codes Label: Island Records Inc. Ilps 9313 Runout Deadwax Matrix Numbers: Side 1: (etch:) ILPS-9313-A (stamp:) TML-M (etch:) 1B SX T B1 1S Side 2: (etch:) ILPS-9313-B (stamp:) TML-M (etch:) 1A SX T C4 1S Was bought new by this seller many years ago and now offered from his private collection (you have absolutely known provenance). Has had just a few plays only on an expertly setup high-end audiophile turntable, arm, and cartridge. Has never been exposed to heat or tobacco smoke and always stored vertically in a specially designed record cabinet (Rackit) to prevent warpage. I have recently updated my VPI HW-16.0 record cleaner to a 16.5 and it now has much more positive suction (can remove all fluid in less than 3 rotations). I have also changed my choice of cleaning fluid to the Audio Intelligent "One-Step" formula that requires no rinsing and leaves no residue. It is alcohol free and uses enzyme agents to remove pressing mold-release compounds, fungi & bacteria, finger oils, and many other environmental contaminants. Made with laboratory-grade pure water(50X purer than distilled water). I neutralize residual static charge from both vinyl and new inner sleeve with a Milty Zerostat. I wear nitrile surgical gloves while cleaning and play testing to avoid any chance of transferring finger oils to the vinyl. Very sensitive play testing was performed straight off my Ayre P-5xe fully balanced phono preamp over Sennheiser HD 600 headphones using a Schiit Audio Valhalla 2 tube headphone amp fitted with NOS Soviet Voskhod matched tubes (see last photo). Track list For track listings, please see my attached record label photographs. I never take "distant" photos nor the so-prevalent type with the LP sticking halfway out of the jacket. I take close-ups under photo lamps so you can see nearly everything I describe in the jacket grading. It is virtually impossible to know the true vinyl condition from any photograph. That takes very bright and close visual inspection PLUS play testing with thorough coverage on high resolution equipment. Grading Details Note: Grading LPs by text characters is subjective and at best are only a guide as no two used records are of exactly the same quality. I do not use "EX" grades as my VG+ is right below "NM-." I never sell a "G" play grade and very rarely ever sell a "VG" play grade. Please, refer to both my photo evidence and detailed descriptions to judge by YOUR OWN grading standards. Questions are always welcome. eBay no longer allows me to enter separate grades for each side of the sleeve or record so you may not see any in the box above but are listed below. Play quality is personally most important to me so vinyl visual qualities are graded and described in detail separately for your complete assessment. Outer Jacket Inspection/grading: VG/VG The main wear factors on both the front and back jacket faces are ring wear curves and creasing. The ring wear is less visible on the front than the rear, but the creasing is heavier on the front as shown in my photos. The worst crease on the front is in the upper left corner starting just above the "I" on the spine curving up and to the right and ending at the top edge just above the "R". In the bottom front middle below the table edge there is a cluster of vertical crease marks, most of them light but are numerous. The rear face has similar vertical creases about an inch out from the sides of the "i" but less than the ones on the front. The top and bottom edges have rub wear and there is some minor rub wear on all corners. The jacket is still very sturdy with no split seams and the matte finish is still mostly smooth and semi-reflective. I'd call it definitely below VG+ but perhaps not all the way to VG. Tough for me to call, so please examine my photos carefully to assess for yourself. Vinyl visual inspection/grading: NM-/NM Side 1 showed some spots of "mottling" on the very top surface that could be part of the original pressing but I can't be sure so I'm reporting them. They are on one sector and pass through T2 to T3. While tilting I spotted about 3 radial very fine reflective hairline "swirls" in a narrow sector. They are extremely fine and faint looking like rubbing from the paper sleeve. Otherwise the side was NM. Side 2 had a very little bit of the same mottling only in a small place on T1 and hard to find. The rest of Side 2 looked perfect. Play Testing: NM/NM Extensive play testing was performed after visual inspection (continuous written notes were taken). I listened to the beginning, middle, and end of each track for a few minutes on each needle drop. When the track width was noticeably greater I took more play samples to get good coverage. I also listened to all lead-in, lead-out and transition grooves between each track. Some tracks were played all the way thru when digitizing my favorites to 96k/24-bit WAV files. This allowed me to go back and re-check some of my notes on digital playback in ProTools. Here is rundown of each side from those notes. Side 1 Play I was struck by the clarity and high audio quality of the first track. There are high production values in the recording, mix, and vinyl mastering. My play samples discovered no audible vinyl noise. The first transition grooves had some low frequency noise but that stopped at the start of T2. T2 also had no audible vinyl noise. T3 is a favorite track and it again had no vinyl noise. Beautiful vocal by Sandy. T5 had only one barely audible tick in the first few minutes, but no more for the rest. T6 is the best track on the side. I noticed a couple of low level "micro ticks" during the quiet intro but not on any other play sample. This side had consistently clean audio fidelity with no distracting vinyl noise. I would rate it a solid NM play grade. Side 2 Play .T1 also impressed me with the high audio fidelity and no detected vinyl noise. T2 is a very powerful track and a top track of the side. Sandy sings a quiet into and during that I heard a very few tiny-volume ticks, but that was the only place. T3 is my favorite of the whole album. No noise detected on it or the next track. T5 is beautiful and has been in my digital play lists for decades. There is a mostly folk-rock instrumental refrain in its last section with a very quiet intro that was dead quiet. Another easy NM play grade. With its high state of audio preservation this copy should not disappoint fans of Fairport. Sandy Denny's vocals are wonderful on this album. Packaging Record will be placed outside the jacket to protect against seam splitting. Original inner sleeve is included separately. Record has been placed into a new MFSL-style "rice paper" plastic sleeve, as the original, paper lined, may be holding onto some dust. This will keep vinyl surfaces clean and well protected during shipping and ultimate buyer usage. Outer jacket is contained in a new clear polyethylene protective sleeve. Sent in high quality record mailer with cardboard stiffeners and all corners double-taped. Shipping Shipping will be via USPS Media Mail for a flat charge of $4.75 per single album sale. eBay raised the $ for Media Mail but I still don't cover my real expense for that or shipping materials. I do try to reduce additional $ for my customers. A combined shipping discount is available on multiple sales completed on the same day($4.75 plus $0.50 for each additional LP). If you do buy more than one LP on the same daydo not pay immediately but wait for my all-combined invoice.eBay does give you the option to "Request an invoice from the buyer," but this option is not available on the eBay mobile app. A discount for the combined items will show on that invoice. Then, once payment is received, the items will ship.
