Description: This 1975 German import stereo double album from Deutsche Grammophon (413 191-1) features a performance of Beethoven's Missa Solemnis in D major, Op. 123 for 4 solo voices, chorus, orchestra and organ. Featured performers include Margaret Price (soprano), Christa Ludwig (alto or contralto), Wiesław Ochman (tenor) and Martti Talvela (bass), accompanied by the Konzertvereinigung Wiener Staatsopernchor (Concert Association of the Vienna State Opera Chorus), directed by Norbert Balatsch. Organ performance is by Peter Planyavsky, featured violin is by Gerhart Hetzel, and the Wiener Philharmoniker is conducted by Karl Böhm. Album lyrics are in Latin, German, English and French. Also included is a double-sided photocopy of the album's review in the June, 1975 and March, 1985 editions of Gramophone magazine. The outer album is a gatefold with a partially hinged inner right flap (see Photo 4) that lifts to help in removing and replacing the records. There was originally a 12" square sheet of 1/4" foam to separate and cushion the two discs, but we found that after 50 years it was crumbling to dust, so we have cleaned that out and substituted a sheet of small-cell bubblewrap of the same thickness. The outer sleeve shows a small collection index sticker in the upper right corner of the back.
