Description: Antique Folk Art Needlework Alphabet Sampler Matted Framed under glass Signed Dated. Overall, 24” x 15”. Sampler alone 17” x 8”. This is a very precious, unique piece as there are missing letters and letter sets that run into one another, seemingly disorganized/haphazard. Perhaps a mystery as to who the artist is. 4 sets of letters upper and lower case, 1 set of numbers - 1 through 7. Artist signed name in light color nearly matching background so illegible. Dated October 2, 1854. Green, red, blue, cream, and brown threads. Mat and frame appear newer. Needlepoint is backed by cardboard. Pre-owned good condition for its age – 170 years old. No rips or tears. Some missing stitches. Some dark spots. Dark brown stained wooden frame – ¾” pine - good condition. White spots on glass is reflection from camera shots.
